09:00 Pick up from your hotel
in Kanchanaburi to Nong Khao Village by local truck.
09:20 Upon arrival, start biking into the village.
Visit the village shrine. A visit to the village shrine is followed
by a nice chat with the elderly living nearby and through them
we will learn about the link between traditional dressing and
betel nut chewing, and westernisation in Thailand. Then biking
will lead us to the rice paddy fields with its stunning panoramic
view.
10:00 Drop by at a local farm to observe the
way the farmers collect the fan palm fruits and sugar. Enjoy
trying some local products from the palm trees. Next to it,
the demonstration of a ritual to strengthen and comfort the
spirit of the Rice Goddess will enhance your understanding of
the role the rice plantation has played in Thai farming society.
10:40 Continue biking for 10 minutes along
the dirt track cutting through the fields will lead us into
the village again. En route, observe a traditional way of rice
threshing and husking, and in relation to rice planting, a crucial
role of buffaloes in Thai farmers' life.
10:55 enjoy making an-easy-to-do sticky-rice
crackers, a long-timed popular snack rarely found in towns,
with help and instructions given by the villagers. A few minutes
walk from there then takes us to an old-fashioned rice mill,
where we will learn about the development of rice threshing
and husking over the past decades.
11:15 Biking to another local's to get the
impression of what a cluster of traditional Thai houses is like.
This is followed by a glimpse of earthen pots reflecting the
local belief in their ancestral spirit. Enjoy coffee served
with fan palm cake, another traditional snack widely popular
due to its distinctive taste.
11:40 Glimpse the way the local weavers practice
their traditional cloth weaving. For those who want to support
the women's home-based work, hand-woven clothes, their unique
and colourful wrap-around clothes are also displayed.
12:00 Return to the temple and transfer to
the town of Kanchanaburi.
