Next stop is Prasat Hin Phimai, excellent restored
Khmer ruins of the late 12th century located in a nice park.
Phimai was linked by road with Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Lunch
in local restaurant. During this trip we drive through the famous
rice paddies of ISAN and of course we stop to make pictures.
Before arrival in Udon Thani we visit Chonnabot, a village where
the main source of income comes from silk waving. Overnight
in Napalai hotel. Dinner (optional) near a lake, nice to go
by rickshaw (= bicycle taxi).
Day 3. Udon Thani - Chiang Khan (BL)
Breakfast and departure to Ban Phu National Park. Lunch at Si
Chiang Mai by the Mekong River. On the other side of the river
you can see Vientiane, the capital of Laos. The tour continues
along the banks of the Mekong River to Chiang Khan. The side
of Laos is covered in dense rain forest while the Thai side
is cultivated. Check in at the Sook Somboon hotel on the bank
of the Mekong river. Overnight and dinner (optional) at Sook
Somboon hotel.
Day 4. Chiang Khan - Phitsanulok
(BL)
At sunrise their is the change to see how families in Chiang
Khan offer to the monks their alms. After breakfast their is
time for an optional boat trip over the Mekong river. We start
driving over mountains covered with jungle. We will pass several
National Parks and make plenty of stops. This is one of the
most scenic and beautiful routes in Thailand. On the way we
visit Bo Po Village. In this village they have a well, which
contains salt water. Lunch in a local restaurant. We make a
stop at Thung Saleang National Park to visit the Keang Sopa
Waterfalls. If the current is not too strong we can swim under
the waterfall. Overnight and dinner (optional) in the La Paloma
Hotel.
Day 5. Phitsanulok - Sukhothai - Phitsanulok
(BL)
After breakfast and we are on the way to the ancient city of
Sukhothai. We rent bicycles and spend the afternoon cycling
amidst the beautiful complex of ruins this ancient capital.
After lunch in the afternoon transfer back to Phitsanulok. Overnight
in the La Paloma hotel. Dinner (optional) near the river.
Day 6. Phitsanulok - Chiang Mai (B)
Breakfast and time for some leisure. Visit the famous temple,
Wat Mahathat on the bank of the Nan River or visit the Folks
Museum in town. Transfer at noon to the train station in Phitsanulok
and travel by air conditioned train from Phitsanulok to Chiang
Mai. The train ride takes you through mountains beautiful landscapes
and mountains covered with jungle. Up on arrival Chiang Mai,
transfer to your hotel in Chiang Mai.
