Traveler Tips in Myanmar
Clothes
in Myanmar Cotton clothing and a light wrap on evenings
during the winter season (Oct to Feb) are recommended.
Shopping Best buys include
lacquer wares, silver, wood and stone carvings, hand woven
silks and cottons, gems, 'Kalaga' embroidered tapestries,
traditional puppets and tribal handicrafts.
Food Burmese cuisine uses
rice, curries with meat or fish, vegetables, salads, soup,
condiments etc. Curries tend to be less chili hot than Thai
versions. Chinese, Thai and Indian restaurants are also
found in major cities, but European cuisine is mostly confined
to major hotels at present.
Taking Photo Take plenty
of film, as locally available supplies are not always reliable.
Photography in airports, railway stations and near any military
installation is forbidden. For close up shots to people
always ask first.
Health Care You should
take adequate supplies of prescription medicines with you
as such medicine might not be available while you are touring.
There are no SARS infections in Myanmar.
Transportation We provide
air conditioned coaches, minivans and cars for all tours
and transfers inside the country. In remote areas, however,
air conditioned vehicles may not always be available.
