Arrival in Luang Prabrang and transfer to Hotel
Phousy, then tour the city and its beautiful temples, such as
Wat Xieng Thong, Wat May, Wat Thatluang, Wat Vixum, and short
walk around other charming temples, like Wat Xieng Mouane and
Wat Choumkhong. Climb the Phousy Hill.
Day 3 -- Luang Prabang.
Day at Leisure
Day 4 -- Luang Prabang - Pakbeng
Pick up from the hotel and transfer to
the pier. Pak-Ou boat leaves Luang Prabang pier at 09 H and
cruise up the Mekong river to Pakbeng - En route two stops are
made - one for observing traditional process to obtain local
rice alcohol in a small village and a stop at Pak Ou village
at the mouth of the Nam ou river; visit Tam Ting caves of a
1000 Buddha. Picnic lunch on the river bank. Arrive Pakbeng
before sunset and check in at Luangsay Lodge - dinner on the
terrace , overlooking the Mekong river.
Day 5 -- Pakbeng - Houeisay
- Chiang Saen
Full breakfast at hotel - (Optional :
walk to Pakbeng market, where people from the surrounding villages
of minorities exchange their goods) 08h30 board Pak-Ou boat
for the second leg of the cruise. En route two stops are made
- one for picnic lunch on the river bank and one to discover
a village of minorities (Yao or Lu). Observe rural life along
the Mekong river. Arrive in Houei Say in the in the end of the
afternoon. After the immigration we cross the Mekong river by
long tail boat to the Thai border. Transfer from Chiang Kong
to our hotel in Thailand for over night.
Day 6 -- Chiang Saen - Chieng
Mai
After breakfast we will visit Chiang Saen
City and drive along the Mekong river to the famous Golden Triangle
where we will make a stop at the panoramic view of the border
where Laos, Thailand and Myanmar (Burma) meet. We then proceed
to Mae Sai, small town at the Burmese border. Lunch at a local
restaurant. We then continue through the country side up the
hills to Doi Tung where we will visit some hill tribes before
we drive back to Chiang Mai. Arrive in Chieng Mai after sunset.
